"Erick Urra is not a chef. Everything that he has learned about restaurants and cooking comes from his family. “I’m no Bobby Flay,” says Urra, who was born and raised in Cuba.
It makes sense then that his Cuban restaurant, Habana Boardwalk, is home to some of the most authentic Cuban dishes around Tallahassee.

Moving from Miami to Tallahassee to attend school in 1999, Urra has since run two local restaurants. The first was the only Peruvian restaurant in Tallahassee and was called Las Brasas. In 2008 Urra and his wife ventured out to open Habana Boardwalk, home to delicious Cuban dishes and an atmosphere that will make you feel like family.
Urra’s efforts also expand to the student community. Each year, Spanish professors from Florida A&M University bring their students to the restaurant to enjoy a genuine Latin-American meal, and students must speak only Spanish to the wait staff. It’s a fun and friendly learning experience that prompts many students to come back time and time again."
