“Raising Victor Vargas,” directed by Peter Sollett, is a film that revolves around the title character’s quest to win the affection of the girl next door. Set in a Latino neighborhood in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, this film presents a side of the American narrative not normally shown on the big screen. Victor Rasuk and Judy Marte star as characters with the same names.

“Raising Victor Vargas” has won numerous awards, including the Independent Spirit Award’s “Best Director,” “Best First Screenplay,” and “Best Debut Performance.” It was also nominated at the San Sebastian Film Festival, the Deauville Film Festival, the Vienalle and by the Online Film Critics Society. It also received nods for the Humantis Prize and a Gotham Award.

“Amores Perros,” is an imaginative thriller set in the outskirts of Mexico City. Three storylines intersect when one of the characters runs a redlight and causes a fateful car crash that brings the characters' lives crashing together. Octavio (Gael Garcia Bernal) is trying to find enough money to elope with his sister in law; Daniel (Alvaro Guerrero) wants to leave his family for his lover, and El Chivo (Emilio Echevarria) is simply trying to make his way as a homeless man in Mexico City.

This film defined what it is to be a Spanish language film in the new millennium. "Amores Perros" has been shown at film festivals around the world and received awards from the London Critics Circle, the Cannes Film Festival, the Lleida Latin-American Festival, the Havana Film Festival, an MTV Movie Award and more than 10 awards from the Ariel Awards in Mexico. It was also nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe.
